Office and Locker Space

Office and Locker Space

SOS allocates and manages all student office and locker space on the 7th floor. To request either an office or a locker, please download and complete the Space Allocation Form, and submit it to the SOS office in room 7-158.

The deadline for submitting the form for the year 2008/2009 is September 30th, 2009. Offices spaces and lockers will be allocated during the following week and students will be notified by email.

Office Space

Office space is always at a premium, with many more requests than we can satisfy. Thus we ask that you consider whether or not you will actually use your space throughout the year. If all you really need is storage, a locker is a good alternative. There are many places to work around the department on a short-term basis, and on the second and third floors of the library. Office space is allocated more or less according to the following priority ranking:

  1. Current office holders who are full-time students have priority to retain their space. If a student switches their status to part-time, we request that they make their space available to a full-time student.
  2. Full-time Ph.D. students.
  3. Full-time M.A. students.
  4. Full-time M.Ed. students, if there is any office space remaining.
  5. Priority is given to SOS executive members, irrespective of program or degree. This is a good strategy for full-time M.Ed. students who really would like office space!

Allocations are done each September during the second week of school. If you are one of the lucky few who is assigned new space, you can obtain a key from Joanne Bedasie in the administration office by giving her a $10 key deposit that will be returned to you when you return the key at the end of your studies.

Locker Space

Locker space is much more readily available. The lockers are located near the student mail slots in the main hall (near room 7-162), near the student phone (opposite 7-112), and in the computer lab (7-250). If you are assigned a locker, SOS will provide you a lock for a $5 deposit. You can choose any free locker. You will write the combination of the lock on a slip of paper, seal it in an envelope, write your name and the locker number on the envelope, and return it to the SOS office (7-158).

When you no longer require the locker, return the lock to SOS and receive your $5 deposit back.

Under no circumstances may anyone claim a locker without authorization from SOS. Locks not provided by SOS will be removed without warning.

Important Note For All Office and Locker Users

Although you can retain your space from year to year, you MUST reconfirm your intention to do so every year. If we do not hear from you by the orientation day in each new academic year, we will assume that you have left and no longer need your space. IT WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY REASSIGNED.

Also, neither SOS, nor the AECP department, nor OISE assume any responsibility for articles lost or stolen from offices or lockers. Please ensure that your office and/or locker are securely locked when you leave them, even for a moment. We have incidents of theft every year
