Funding for students travelling to, and presenting at, conferences
is administered by both the Graduate Students Association (GSA) and the
Dean’s Office. More information
is available on the Student Services website. For Dean’s Office
funding, students have to be pre-approved for conference funding, up to
three months in advance. The current policy and forms are available online.
Some important notes about the administration of Dean’s Office funding:
- Pre-approvals are done once a quarter. Without a pre-approval, you won’t be funded.
- The pre-approval forms must be picked up by the student at the
Dean’s Office (12th floor) reception within two weeks of the cut-off
date for that quarter’s submissions. The approved forms will not be
sent to the student. You will not be notified when your form is
approved.
- Reimbursement claims must be submitted no later than one month
after the conclusion of your conference. If you miss this deadline, you
will not be reimbursed.
- In summary: There are tight deadlines for submitting for
pre-approval, picking up the approved form (without being notified that
it is ready), and submitting your receipts for reimbursement. Missing one of these deadlines means no money for you. In the words of the Dean’s Office, this is being done “in order to promote efficiency and keep within our budget.”
