FEW: Forum for Women in Engineering

FEW was started in July 2007 under the ACM SVNIT Student Chapter, a student chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery, which is the oldest and largest computing society in the world. SVNIT, or the National Institute of Technology, Surat, is one of the 18 NITs all over India, which offer undergraduate and post-graduate degrees in Engineering, Science and Architecture.

FEW is open to women from all branches of engineering, and though we only have undergraduates currently, we are looking for graduate members as well. FEW meeting attendees vary every meeting and we don't require them to be ACM chapter members, though we encourage them to support us by becoming members (and most of them do).

FEW meetings usually consist of technical and non-technical debates and discussions, since we feel that women don't talk about technology when they get together, and we want to try and change that in a small way. The ACM chapter conducts events like quizzes, programming contests, workshops and invited talks regularly.

MENTE: Mujeres en Tecnologia (Women in Technology)

MenTe was established in February 2008 at Tecnologico de Monterrey in Mexico, one of the largest private, nonsectarian and coeducational multi-campus universities in Latin America. Its name has a double meaning, because it means "Mind" in Spanish and also stands for "Mujeres en Tecnologia" meaning Women in Technology, it is also the first Latin American ACM-W Student Chapter.  It started with three main purposes: to develop friendship within the girls majoring in these fields; to promote technology related majors so the numbers of women enrollment increases; and to take opportunities around the world, and develop new chances for women.

The main goal of MenTe is to unite women in the technology field. After unity has occurred, a viable solution must be found in order to find access for opportunity growth. We are leading the way for women to discover that perhaps their passion lies within unexplored areas such as technology, especially those areas that are within their reach. Therefore, seeking for an increase in female enrollment and preventing female desertion from technology careers.
