HABITAT RESCHEDULED - St. Timothy’s Habitat for Humanity work week has been rescheduled from May to September.
CARING FOR CREATION CHALLENGE: TAKE ONE STEP . . . We are very fortunate in America to have an abundance of food available for purchase and consumption. Maybe too lucky? “More than 40 percent of all food produced in American is not eaten . . . . Nationwide, food scraps make up 17 percent of what we send to the landfill” (http:/www.culinate.com/articles/features/wasted_food). Think of the ethical, environmental, and financial implications of our food waste for our nation. People hungry or starving worldwide, water use, land use, pesticides, fuel/transportation, landfill, methane produced by rotting food, extra packaging, dollars spent/thrown away. Then, think of the implications for your own household. On this Earth Day consider joining us in this challenge: For the month of May TRY for zero food waste in your own household. This means using up that whole bunch of parsley or green onions in the frig, and saving that ¼ cup of mashed potatoes (great snack later in the day) rather than throwing them out. Use the time between Earth Day and May 1st to plan meals, shopping, how to handle eating out, etc. Then for the month of May put your plan to work. At the end of May we would love to hear about your experiences with this challenge. If you want/need even more of a challenge, you can (1) compost all your veggie and fruit peels, coffee grounds, etc. and (2) reduce your packaging and plastic bag use by half.
PRAYER CONCERNS - Corinne Cantley; Dianne Brundage; Gordon Paulu; Michelle Mick.
