LIBRARY OBJECTIVES

 

 

The Library aims to support the mission and philosophy of Sts. Peter and Paul School.  Moreover, it also aims to support the curriculum of Sts. Peter and Paul School by providing library resources, services, and facilities to meet the learning, information, instruction, and research needs of the students, faculty and parents.

 

 

 

LIBRARY COLLECTIONS

 

The Library Media Center houses books, and other non-print materials. Also available are a Caribbean Collection, Black History, fiction, non-fiction books, references, periodicals and some easy reading books, DVD. VHS, and audio cassettes for library and classroom use.

 

ACCESS TO THE COLLECTIONS

The library adopts the Dewey Decimal Classification Systems (DDC).  Books on the shelves are arranged according to the numbers 001 through 999.

Each call number represents a subject area.  Guides were provided to assist the students in locating books on the shelves.

 

BORROWING POLICY

General works of fiction and non-fiction including Caribbean and Black History collections may be checked out for home use for two weeks and can be renewed for another week if not needed by other users.  However, General Reference materials, videocassette tapes and current periodicals are for room use only.


Teachers may borrow up to five (5) books at a time for a period of a month.

Students may borrow up to three (3) books at a time for  a period of two weeks.  Books on loan not returned on time will be subject for an overdue fine of 10 cents a day including Saturday, Sundays and holidays.

Lost and damaged library materials must be reported at once to the library.  It should be replaced by the same title or the latest edition.  However, lost library materials can also be paid for according to the current price of the materials.

 

PROCEDURES FOR CLASS USE OF THE LIBRARY

Teachers must:

1.  Discuss in advance the purpose of their visit to the library 

    a.  Define the subject matter 

    b.  Check with the Librarian for the availability of resources  
2.  Reserve the library by signing in the reservation calendar at least 72 hours prior to the intended

     schedule.  In case of cancellation, please notify the library in advance to give a chance to other  

     users.   
3.  Accompany and supervise the students  
4.  Explain purpose of visit to the library 

5.  End five minutes before the bell rings.

6.  Ensure that students place the used books on the book trucks; arrange the tables and chairs  
     properly before leaving the library premises.

 

EXPECTATIONS:

Good behavior is expected for rewards, such as stickers, etc.  Socializing, eating, drinking, playing, loud conversations or other non-related library activities are not allowed.
