Hello! My name is Amy Street, and I would like to welcome you all to my reading classes' website. (There is also a bit of computer class info available on the Calendars page.) I am very excited to be able to make more information about my courses available on the web for students and parents to access from home.
Assignment calendars:
I plan to keep my Google calendars updated regularly so that you all can see when important assignments are due and when tests are coming up. You can access the specific assignments for your class from the Calendars tab on the left. The classes are labeled by grade and class period. For instance, 7-1 means seventh grade, first period class. Make sure you are looking at your own class's calendar to get the accurate assignment information you need.
Class handouts:
You can also access handouts I provide in class in course documents. I will not make every handout available, but I will try to upload the most essential or generally useful assignments. I hope this will make "forgetting" work at school less of a problem for those students who have home computers.
Accelerated Reader:
In the past, Accelerated Reader has provided a good way for students to challenge themselves in reading. However, it also has caused a lot of confusion in regard to the way AR factors in to student grades. If you are wanting to know how AR works, what students are supposed to do, and how they are graded, please read the AR page.

My goals for this year:
Every year brings a chance for a new start. Each year I change several things about my courses. Usually changes are for the better, but not all go as well as I hope. We will all have to be patient with each other as we work out the kinks. Some of my goals for this year are the following:
Place more emphasis on authentic reading for real life purposes,
Incorporate more nonfiction to boost cross-curricular connections,
Engage students in vocabulary self-selection (more to come on that),
Provide more fluency practice and instruction, and
Allow for student-driven instruction that better meets individual needs.
My goals for students:
I hope that students will make the following goals for themselves:
Develop a greater skill and interest in reading,
Find types of reading material they personally enjoy,
Gain skills for reading in other subject areas,
Complete assignments well and on time, and
Get to know their fellow classmates and work together amiably.
Thank you for visiting my website! You have taken an important step in supporting your child's education. Please check back regularly for updates! ~Mrs. Street |
