Why we come

 Liz and Bill Huddy

We have lived in Bishop's Hull since 1983 but it was a few years before we set foot in the church. We received such a warm welcome that the church has become our spiritual home and second family, a vital part of our lives and a constant source of support.

I've been going to church since I was 9 or 10 but never understood why I had to go. When I came to Bishop's Hull church, I started to think about why I went to church and what it meant to me. This took me quite a while and I was still deciding when I was asked if I would like to be confirmed. I said yes but still hadn't decided what it all meant to me. I go to church to see people. I also go to get a good start to my week and to say sorry about anything I've done wrong. I like going to Bishop's Hull church because there are lots of nice people to see and the atmosphere is great too.

Cynthia Pollard

In 1986 when I moved to Bishop's Hull with my three children, then aged 2, 7 and 9, church was already an important part of our family life. For me, it is the bedrock of my existence and gives shape and meaning to everything else. It was to the church that I turned first when my life fell apart in 1990 and I found the solace I needed. It was also of paramount importance to me that my second marriage was blessed in church. A more recent highlight was my granddaughter's baptism which brought many non-churchgoing friends and family into church for this special occasion. There is special significance for me in the church being dedicated to St Peter, the rock, as this represents what my faith means to me.

Being greeted at the door and made to be part of the church. After feeling low I came to a service two years ago and I felt very uplifted. Now I enjoy my Sundays in church, singing hymns and saying prayers and communion and meeting friends
