SERVICE (Social Action and Out Reach) We are called to serve our St. Paul’s family and the greater community through Out Reach and Mission that helps to empower people as we strive for justice and peace among all people, respecting the dignity of every human being.
The “A”ction Team This Team will focus on providing leadership so that the parish is aware of the social needs of the parish, the community and the world and to assist in meeting those needs. Building on the established strong tradition of social action and outreach, we will help the parish to identify social, political and economic forces that affect the people in the community and beyond. In conjunction with the Education Ministry Team we may study several areas including issues related to poverty. At a parish level, we could consider and then make recommendations to Parish Council about such questions as, “could St. Paul’s be a site for an inner-city retreat centre?” or, “would it be desirable to work towards having the church and/or hall open as an expanded (or 24 hour) prayer space?” The social ministries of the community such as the Food Bank, the Upper Room, Bedford MacDonald House, Meals on Wheels, and the Seniors’ Active Living Centre may all be enhanced through a careful assessment of their needs and our gifts and interests. St. Paul’s may find that we are able to assist in other areas such as seasonal clothing banks, disaster relief, school breakfast programs, single teen mom’s support, literacy and tutoring work, or new comers’ assistance. Our Christmas outreach and some ongoing lower profile support to people in need or crisis have been outstanding. There has also been wonderful work done in supporting refugee families. This ministry will enable us to make a difference by offering love and support as Christ directed us to do. We will assist and promote an awareness of the Primate's World Relief and Development Fund and the Bible Society.
