                                                            Mid Week Lenten Schedule

Ø  Wednesday, February 22     Ash Wednesday  Holy Communion

THE TREE OF THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOOD AND EVIL –
in the Garden of Eden takes us to the beginning of the problem
that Christ’s cross alone can solve: “We are
dust!”
(Gen. 3:1-19, John 12:1-7)

Ø  Wednesday, February 29  Mid Week Lent 2
BENEATH THE OAKS AT MAMRE – Abraham receives a
sweeping promise from God that began, almost laughably
with one son,  like the falling of a single acorn.
(Gen. 18:1-14, Mark 14:2-17)

Ø  Wednesday, March 7 Midweek Lent 3
AT THE BURNING BUSH - The Lord got Moses’ attention,
and assured him that  God’s attention was on saving His people.
(Exodus 3:1-12, Luke 22:15-21)

Ø  Wednesday, March 14 Midweek Lent 4
JONAH DID NOT CARE WHETHER THOUSANDS OF
PEOPLE PERISHED AS LONG AS HIS SHADE PLANT
SURVIVED - The Cross of Christ was not a shade
 tree,
but one on which He died, that people might survive.
(Jonah 3:3-4:11, Luke 22:54-62)

Ø  Wednesday, March 21 Midweek Lent 5
PSALM 1 – describes those who live by the Word of the
Lord AS BEINGLIKE  TREES PLANTED BY A RIVER.”
 (Psalm 1, Luke 23:26-31)

Ø  Wednesday, March 28 Midweek Lent 6
THE SYCAMORE TREES – Zacchaeus’ climb proved
to be a vantage point to witness, in both senses of
the term;
to see..and tell.
(Luke 19:1-10, Matthew 27:38-43

On Ash Wednesday we begin our journey through Lent, through our Lord’s Passion,
and on to Easter.  It is a time of reflection and repentance, once employed by the
Church as the time for instruction for people entering the Church through Holy Baptism
on Easter Eve. During this Lenten season, we consider our sinful condition, for although
God has forgiven all our sins, we “daily sin much and surely deserve nothing but
punishment.” (Small Catechism, Meaning to the Fifth Petition).
