Stopping House

Stopping Houses were appropriately named for the service they provided to travelers during their journey. Livery services, hearty home cooked meals, a place to refresh and possibly even room for the night, were highly valued offerings that brought comfort to the weary, and landmark status to the homes that provided them. This teahouse will be an opportunity to share a small piece of Lacombe's history. The location near the historical intersection of Calgary-Edmonton Trail and Highway #12 allows the name "Stopping House" to have a truly unique fit!

The original construction of our Edwardian home was for the A.M. Campbell family in 1912. Although some renovations had occurred during the mid 1940's the main floor plan still offered a comfortable layout for large gatherings, as we could imagine it may have been used by a merchants family for entertaining.
