How To Stop Excessive Underarm Sweating

Excessive underarm sweating is a condition whereby a person sweats excessively in the armpits. This condition also causes causes an offensive odor that can be embarrassing. My self esteem when down the tubes, and caused me a lot of public embarrassment.

In order to stop excessive underarm sweating, you must first understand the cause of the condition. For most people, it can be genetic or inherent. Axillary hyperhidrosis is the most common name for this condition.

A lot of companies claim to be able to stop excessive underarm sweating, but most have horrible side effects. In the past I tried about every available treatment out there with little to no results.

I have tried treatments from my doctor as well as over the counter remedies, but they all usual target mild underarm sweating. Chemicals such as formalin, glutaraldehyde, and aluminium are used in these treatments to block pores and attempt to stop the perspiration from hitting the skins surface. They do come with side effects though. In some cases it needs to be applied over and over to have any effect at all, and further more causes skin irritation.

Iontophoresis is another option. In this treatment, the patient puts the effected body part under tap water and a mild electric current is run through it. This treatment is not for everyone, including women who are pregnant, epileptics, and people with heart conditions. It also happens to have little to no effect on stopping excessive underarm sweating.

Botox injections have been used for trying to stop excessive underarm sweating as well. Botulinum toxin is injected into the underarm to stop the release of acetylcholine which stops sweating. The main side effect is that it causes extreme pain and has little effect. This will require you to get repeated injections every six months, and may be too expensive for most people.

The most extreme treatment to stop excessive underarm sweating is having surgery. Only go down this road after all other options have been tried. There are two kinds of surgery. The sympathetic nerves signals are disrupted by placing titanium clips across them which will stop the glands from sweating. This is called clipping. Cutting is another form of the surgery which they take scissors and actually cut the nerves. This may cause compensatory sweating, which is sweating in other areas of the body after the underarm sweating is cured. Internal bleeding and neck pain are the main side effects of surgery.
