Cuisine and Company:  This month we will be visiting Dar Salam, an Iraqi restaurant!  We will meet for lunch around 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 19th.

Grab beef, chicken or lamb shawarma marinated in a garlic yogurt sauce before being slow-cooked and shredded, a savory lentil stew with cumin, cardamom, tomato, onion, and a bit of lime, plus smaller delicacies like dolmas that stuff onions with pomegranate/ sun-dried tomato, and sweet walnut-stuffed dates.  Salam also offers more familiar Middle Eastern eats like flatbread falafel sandos, kebabs with tender grilled chicken between onion & tomato, and Baklava.

Please contact Rachel Schweitzer if you have questions or would like to participate.  A sign-up sheet is located in the Fellowship Hall under the main bulletin board.

Wine and Dine Book Club: Our current book is “The Last Lecture,” by Randy Pausch.

On September 18, 2007, computer science professor Randy Pausch stepped in front of an audience of 400 people at Carnegie Mellon University to deliver a last lecture called “Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams.” With slides of his CT scans beaming out to the audience, Randy told his audience about the cancer that was devouring his pancreas and that would claim his life in a matter of months. On the stage that day, Randy was youthful, energetic, handsome, often cheerfully, darkly funny. He seemed invincible. But this was a brief moment, as he himself acknowledged.

Randy’s lecture has become a phenomenon, as has the book he wrote based on the same principles, celebrating the dreams we all strive to make realities.”

Join us for dinner and discussion at Bill and Kris Kuhn’s house at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, June, 22nd.  Please contact Kris Kuhn if you have questions or would like to participate.
