Is it too late to sign-up? Probably not. Early sign-up works best for notifications, and we are starting practices on Monday, March 9: So if you're still not sure if your child will be on the team -sign up online so you will be updated on practice times, clothing and equipment required, etc. We can add to the roster up to one week before the first meet. So after March 22, it may be too late. Why are there 4 practices per week? (That's a big commitment!) Think of it as 4 opportunities to come to practice. If I scheduled only two nights per week, it's a sure thing it would be the two nights you wouldn't be able to come. I also know from experience that we'll average only 3 nights per week due to other school programs, Easter, and Ohio weather. So if I scheduled three nights per week, we'd end up down to two, and as I mentioned before, those will be the two where you can't come. How many practices must my son or daughter attend each week? As many as you can bring them to. I will schedule times for relay practice and field events but that schedule will be subject to change. I don't punish anyone for not attending, but they will be responsible for asking teammates about any announcements they miss. I'm just not organized enough to get all announcements on this website in a timely manner, and I won't keep track of who came on what nights. Will practice be cancelled tonight? If there is severe weather, I'll usually post to the website about cancellations. Otherwise, I don't cancel unless it is raining at the time practice begins. I will try to call people who have long drives to practice -let me know your best phone number for between 4:00 and 5:30 on weekdays if you have a long drive (20+ minutes). When I cancel close to starting time I or someone I delegate will be at the practice site to let people know when they arrive. When is the first meet? Sunday, March 29. What days are meets held? Unless you have a 7th or 8th grader who qualifies for the Diocesan championship in late May, there will not likely be any week night meets. There is an invitational (for girls only) the first Saturday in May. There is another invitational (open to all students) the Saturday of memorial day weekend. All other meets are on Sundays. (This is based on history -I won't have the official schedule until March 17th.) Do I need to buy track spikes? No, but if you do, never let your child wear them to practice. They are OK for meets except for the standing long jump, shot put, or discus throw. A limited number of track spikes can be rented for the season from St. Charles in Parma. Can you get my child's physical form from the other coach or from sports committee? Not as easily as you could. Some coaches are organized and keep track of all the forms after their season -I think both of them live in Japan. I'm not very organized and in the past I've not been good at tracking down physical forms for multiple kids. This results in the team roster being late. Please send me a copy of your child's physical form. What time should I arrive for track meets? At least one hour before your child's session begins. For invitationals, I'll provide a schedule. I'll update this response with regular meet times after the schedule comes out. Meets start at 1:00 for grades 4 and 5. High jump begins at 2:00. All other events for grades 6 through 8 begin at 3:00. Warning: The regional championship meet in May will have older grades run first. Does my child have to stay for the entire meet? No, but let me know before leaving the meet so I know we haven't lost someone. Sometimes we'll look for someone to fill other events -such as moving younger kids up to fill out relay teams with the older kids. |
