Please Email us or phone our lochkeeper Ian Fernyhough or if you prefer E mail- lochkeeper@stmarysanglingclub.org.uk Anglers are reminded that permits for the fishing are available from The Glen Cafe, The Tibbie Shiels Inn, and Fishers in Penicuick.
There are large shoals of Perch in both lochs demonstrated by echo soundings and anglers returns. Catching them in numbers is dependent on hitting a shoal and any of the trout methods should bring results. The most productive method however is feeding maggots once a shoal is located and this can lead to excellent bags of Perch.
Fish finders are a useful addition to your armoury when trying to locate a shoal, and Perch of around the 1lb mark are commonplace when a shoal is located.
For more information on how to catch this most attractive fish click here. Please return any unwanted Perch UNHARMED.
Many anglers display a phobia about handling Eels and whilst they are more lively and slippery than other species using the correct handling techniques makes handling them much easier. The life cycle of this fish is most interesting and when you see what the fish has to undergo just to get to our lochs( click here )you will make every effort to to treat this often badly treated fish with the respect it deserves.
Eels over 2lbs in weight are not uncommon. Please return any unwanted Eels UNHARMED. It is now illegal to take any Eels that have been caught. All Eels must be returned unharmed!
