It is no secret that the Harrahs corporation recent privatization has been hit with some hard times. And this casino shows it. In contrast to a modern well designed non-casino entrance and hotel, the casino is frankly well-worn and threadbare. Looking to play 15 year IGT slots? This is the place. Are you anxious to play a 10 year old Aristocrat Queen of the Nile machine? Or dying to try your luck on a "Cashman" slot machine where the video is faded? You have come to the right place. Rows and rows of old machines for the slot player, with an occasional always crowded bank of newer machines thrown in. Missouri Casinos have always maintained a larger slot hold than their neighbors. And Harrah's is no exception. Expect tight slots. Midwest players love their penny machines and majority of the slots are pennies at Harrahs. Competitor Ameristar Casino across the river, has had a policy to move their machines throughout the casino on a regular basis. Not so at Harrahs. Expect your favorite to be in the same place each time you visit. Enough with the Lucky Larry OK. Time to move on to the 21st century. Harrahs has 96 table games. We have dabbled at the craps table with no luck. $5.00 minimum tables are available throughout the week. Young son swears by the blackjack tables. Have not seen any 6-5 tables, though. A recent Saturday night visit at Harrahs found only one straight blackjack table open. $15.00 minimum bet. The rest of the tables only offered gimmick versions of blackjack. 21 plus 3 handed poker for example. Harrahs has recently tinkered with its Total Rewards Players Club to make it less appealing to players. Especially for top end players. But who are we to argue with success. The ability to travel with your points and use them at any Harrahs for comps appears to be the primary attraction. Sunday promotions, specifically special drawings and scratch cards, seems to attract the senior players. If you want to gamble with your grandparent, be sure to visit Harrahs during the day when they holding one of their promotions. Eat Up! Buffet. The recently renovated, recently reduce priced mega buffet frankly is top drawer. Changing menus. Seven food stations. With out a doubt the premier buffet in the St.Louis area. Charlie Gitto's. Harrahs version of the venerable Hill restaurant offers an extremely attractive early dining special menu. Most entrees are under $10.00. |
