Assignment Number 2: Due Nov. 4

READ THE ENTIRE ASSIGNMENT BEFORE COMPLETING THE ACTIVITIES

This week, we are going to be exploring Web 2.0.  Web 2.0 is a trend in the use of World Wide Web technology and Web design that aims to facilitate creativity, information sharing, and, most notably, collaboration among users. These concepts have led to the development and evolution of web-based communities and hosted services, such as social-networking sites, wikis, blogs, and folksonomies (the practice of categorizing content through tags). Although the term suggests a new version of the World Wide Web, it does not refer to an update to any technical specifications, but to changes in the ways software developers and end-users use the Internet.” (http://www.stiltonstudios.net/glossary.htm)

IMPORTANT: Some Web 2.0 Sites require you to "register" in order to use their features. Remember that you should NEVER use an important password, like your email password, when you register to use a Web site or other third party service.

1. Visit each of these Web 2.0 sites:

An example of the technology commons: everyone contributes.

You do not have to accept gears to try this site, so you can select "deny.")

ASSIGNMENT: This assignment has two parts:

1. Create a presentation with “280slides.”

“280slides” allows you to create beautiful presentations, access them from anywhere, and share them with the world. There's no software to download and nothing to pay for – and when you're done building your presentation you can share it any way you like.

http://280slides.com/

Your presentation should have at least 8 slides. Create a title slide (with your name). The slideshow can be about any school-related topic. You should use photos from the Internet by clocking on the camera icon (unfortunately, the photo search feature does not list the source of the image, so you cannot provide a citation.) Post your slideshow on the 280slides Website, and post the link to your slideshow in our course discussion area. You can also download the slideshow to your computer.

2. View this video tutorial:

Write a brief explanation about how you might use this Website with students. Post your explanation on our Google Group as ASSIGNMENT #2.
