On Saturday, 24 March 2012, a new shrine for the Corpus of Christ was erected on church grounds and blessed by Bishop Burns. The
Corpus was restored by Margaret Swanson; the shrine was built by Walt Dangel
and other members of the Knights of Columbus; and Dennis and Bobbi Carlson
oversaw the final installation. The shrine was dedicated in memory of Deacon Chuck Johnson. Other parishioners who helped with the assembly and installation were Fr. Jim Blaney, Ron Mathews, Cecelia Kimzey, Mike Perensovich, Joe Meador, and Robert Patterson.
Welcome, Fr. Jim! On Sunday, 30 October 2011, Bishop Edward Burns installed Fr. Jim Blaney as the pastor of St. Gregory's. After the installation Mass, parishioners attended a potluck celebration in the church hall. One hit of the party was a fun "welcome cake" for our new bike-loving pastor, which included a little priest-character wearing a Roman collar and a cross on his chest! A very special thank you goes to the fantastic kitchen crew, which oversaw the event. Hello, Fr. Jim Blaney! On Sunday, 17 July 2011, we held a Welcome-to-the-Parish potluck for Fr. Jim, and many parishioners turned out to meet our new pastor. We're blessed to have you here with us, Fr. Jim!
Oh, Heavenly Gates! On Sunday, 27 February 2011, Bishop Edward Burns blessed our new Lincoln Street entry gates, which were designed by Fr. Scott Settimo and beautifully crafted by Matt Stroemer. Fr. Ben Konda and a few brave souls withstood the bitter cold to join Bishop Burns in the blessing-- while most others watched comfortably from inside the church! A Going-Away Party was held for Fr. Scott Settimo on Saturday, 18 September 2010. Fr. Scott served as our pastor for two years before his transfer to Ketchikan in late September. The church hall was filled with parishioners who wanted to say to Fr. Scott:
We'll miss you, Fr. Scott. We wish you the best at Holy Name Parish in Ketchikan! (Photos provided by Sheila Culhane-Brower)
On Friday, 27 August 2010, parishioners joined Fr. Peter Gorges in celebrating his 75th birthday with a boat cruise on the Alaskan seas. A great time was had by all and Fr. Peter was most pleased to celebrate his big day with his "home" family.
We love you, Fr. Peter! (Photos provided by Sheila Culhane-Brower)
In 2010, St. Gregory's enjoyed two Easter Sunday Masses, one in the Ordinary Form, and the other, a Tridentine High Mass celebrated by Fr. Arsenius, a monk from the Annunciation Hermitage in La Pine, Oregon. Fr. Scott Settimo, Randy Gluth, and Mike Trainor assisted Fr. Arsenius at this most beautiful Easter High Mass. Thank you for spending Holy Week with us, Fr. Arsenius!
