Policies for homework and tests -- this was explained to parents during Curriculum Night and also is listed in the written policies for the class. Tests and Homework
From my experience teaching both college and senior high school, students need to be prepared for whatever level of scholarship they will soon be entering. As eighth graders, you will all soon be entering the high school academic level. Speaking from experience as a college prep and AP English teacher for seniors in high school, your teachers in high school will expect you to have solid study skills and for you to take responsibility for your own scholastic achievement. Also, most, if not all, teachers at the high school level give zeros for missed homework assignments as a matter of course. Thus, I feel it is my duty to prepare you for what you will experience next year -- as such, my course policies reflect those of a high school environment, though I do make allowances for the fact that this is still eighth grade (for example, allowing a few days to make up tests and to turn in homework). |
