A volunteer club of "beautiful" and strong thyroid cancer ladies of any age, religion and ethnic background; patient, caregiver, survivor and friend who has pledge their voices to our Thyroid Cancer Awareness Talk, Now ! Campaign.
Thyroid Cancer is the fastest growing newly diagnosed cancer among women of all ages today, yet for most of us the words thyroid cancer were an alien entity invasion from another planet into our world. Add insult to injury when the medical profession, family, friends and even some cancer care support groups dismiss "our" cancer as trivial and inconsequential based on outdated information and the incorrect assumption that thyroidectomy is the end of thyroid cancers danger and impact on our lives.
Thyroid cancer like most cancers has the potential of being a highly curable cancer, however as with any cancer the key is early detection, knowing and understanding your risks --both envioronmental and genetic, self examinations and sympton awareness are key in the proper self advocacy necessary to turn around healh management trends that can save and improve quality of life issues for many patients.
Our personal, first hand, experience in the journey of Stevie JoEllie's thyroid cancer diagnosis and treatment is a living testament to the prevalent lack of adequate early diagnostic and treatment management of potential thyroid cancers for the underinsured, the uninsured and the insured alike; based on family history or genetics, presenting seemingly unrelated symptons and age of thyroid nodule onset/discovery. In many instances, Fine Needle Aspiration was either inconclusive or inadequate in the early diagnosis of developing thyroid cancers as evidenced by our personal experience and many other PURPLE HEART ANGELS experience.
The long term emotional battle, hormonal and medically consequential changes, including the psychosocial needs of thyroid cancer patients haven unknown to the masses for too long. The time has come for us to band together and share our collective voices with the world. The Purple Heart Angels will create a grass roots forum and national movement to change the landscape of thyroid cancer recognition and long term care by pooling together our personal medical and personala experiences to share them with the world we can make a stand and bring about changes in public health policy, diagnostic testing, treatment and integrative medicine insurance coverage policy and so much more.
But the most important change will be teaching our young women and their parents to recognize signs of thyroid function early, to teach everyone the proper self neck check techniques that can save lives and to obtain public announcement dollars for TV and Radio Campaing.
