![]() About Steven, Steven grew up with a passion for horses. Since he was young he always enjoyed visiting his grandmother to be around horses and go on pleasure trail rides. At the age of six he started riding, taking lessons—and from there the passion grew. Having tried 4-H and local horse shows, he never felt satisfied, and always longed to perform at something where he and his horse could really prove themselves as a team. At the age of twelve Steven began riding in competitive trail rides (rides under 50 miles), which brought him to discover the sport
Today, Steven is a 21 year old full-time student at Penn State University pursuing a degree in environmental resource management—where he still finds time to compete horses. Since he started competing in endurance, Steven has accumulated 2,820 miles, many of those miles on his own horses that he conditions, feeds and cares for daily. “Horses are my passion. There is nothing more thrilling than cantering across the finish line, horse and rider in sync, after being out for 50 or a 100 miles and seeing parts of the countryside many never get to see. What’s more inspiring is how you just got to share the experience with your equine counterpart, who is still eager to go at the end.” In the past two years Steven has set his sights on new goals—competing in
the international realm—a goal that has brought a great team together, Steven and Sammy... Accomplishments of Steven and Sammy
Nearing the end of 2011, This Dynamic Team qualified for the Young Rider World Endurance Championships on December 10, in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Steven and Sammy made the U.S. team list — being ranked 2nd in the United States. “Sammy is one of the most phenomenal horses I have come across; not only are his athletic abilities most impressive, but his personality fills the room (or the barn). Even though I don’t see him daily, he knows who I am—when I get on him he seems to know we have business to take care of. I am honored to have made the U.S. Team list for this event, which will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, but moreover I’m blessed to have the opportunity to compete with this horse against the best in the world…” says Steven. As one can imagine, the cost of training, shipping, and airfare for such an event is immense. Luckily the organizing committee covers a portion of the costs for the athletes—but it still leaves a lot to cover. As a full time student, Steven needs your support going forward.
