Meet Colonel Trotter the infuriating ARP Warden. Using authentic artefacts and stories from the period he brings the Home Front to life with tales, observations, songs and an air raid quiz, when he finally stops digressing and gets on with it.

Format
  • Introduction to the period
  • 'What's in the box?' a look at the paraphernalia of the ARP including civilian gas masks (English & German), a baby's mask) and a gas rattle
  • Character-led storytelling session including interactive air raid quiz
  • Q/A with Colonel Trotter



Extension

'Put that Light Out!' can be extended with a short hands-on object led activity.

Children from Wincanton Primary School who encountered Mr Gladwell found him utterly convincing, providing them with a real insight into how Evacuees must have felt.

Mr Gladwell can be combined with Colonel Trotter for a full World War II experience.
