Tudors

'Tudor Tales'
the Life and Adventures of
Matthew Starke, sailor

Content

Matthew Starke, Tudor sailor tells his tales of exploration and life at sea with Sir Francis Drake.
Using props such as a giant portrait of Drake and a large scale Tudor world map he spins tales of high adventure, Spanish treachery, conquest, colonisation, and circumnavigation.
Children will be drawn into a maritime world where the sailors were sick with scurvy and the biscuits crawling with maggots!

The storytelling session is usually started with an introduction to Tudor costume with various digressions on why your tights might fall down, how to bow and what to use when bleaching linen....you really don't want to know.

Format
  • Introduction to the period and Sir Francis Drake (a giant portrait of Drake acts as the backdrop to this session)
  • Brief session on Tudor costume, customs and manners.
  • Character-led storytelling session.
  • Q/A session with Matthew
  • Brief session on Tudor portraiture using giant portrait of Drake

Extension

'Tudor Tales' can be extended with a drama session using events from Drake's voyage around the world as inspiration.
