20th CENTURY MURDER MYSTERIES
starring a host of
disreputable characters
from the 1940s,'50s & '60s
'The Murder Mystery is an exciting way to approach language skills.' Children adopt the role of detectives as they question murder suspects, investigate clues and use their reasoning skills to solve 'orrible murders! All suspects played by Steve. Suitable for Yr4-Yr6. A great way to occupy Yr 6 during the summer term! Duration: each Murder Mystery features five different characters so to get the most from them you should be prepared to dedicate a whole day. This will allow sufficient time for briefing junior detectives, questioning suspects, developing and discussing ideas and presenting a solution. Longer term programmes can be devised as part of an intervention programme working to develop and improve specific learning skills. Please contact me to discuss details. A fantastic way of boosting self-confidence, developing vocabulary skills, and encouraging reluctant writers.' (Scott Ord, Head of Learning, Blackpool Academy, Liverton.) 'Death in the Blitz' Set during war-torn London Death in the Blitz invites children to solve the murder of Ollie Cathcart, Ministry of Defence employee and suspected spy. What is in the suspicious package he delivers every Friday to the Rose and Crown pub? Is Ollie really a spy or is this a case of mistaken identity? When Ollie is found murdered in the bombed ruins of the Rose and Crown suspicion falls on four people. Is the murderer: the local ARP Warden? An American Intelligence Officer? Mr Penfold, Ollie's boss? Alfie Barnes the local shopkeeper? A real wartime mystery with a twist in the tail. 'Brilliant! Can you come and do it again?'
(Yr 6 Wynstream School Exeter) 'Death of Movie Star' Set in 1950s Hollywood 'Death of a Movie Star' is about the murder of Betsy Davis rising starlet of Deville Movie Studios. Following a briefing from a Private Detective, children interview suspects, examine evidence and attempt to solve the crime. But who did it? Was it Betsy's boyfriend and US Marine Lieutenant 'Chuck' Wright; her New York manager Howard Deville; or her ex husband, Italian actor Tony Falzoni? 'It improved my daughter's reasoning skills, encouraging her to think more deeply about how to problem solve and aided her listening skills.' (Parent feedback) 'Death of Rock Star' Set in Brighton in 1965 Death of a Rock Star invites children to solve the murder of up-and-coming rock singer Janis Denny. Janis' band Full Tilt are growing more popular but there are divisions among the band members. Some are for change others want things to stay the same. When Janis is found dead on the tour bus Detective Sergeant Carter and his assistants are called in to find the murderer. Is it Phil Spectrum the band's ambitious manager; Keith their hippy drummer; 'Dibsy' the Mod guitarist, or 'Baz' their Rocker roadie? Only the children's detective skills will discover the answer. 'It made him think
about and evaluate information that he was given, to then come to a conclusion.'
'Olivia really
enjoyed the sessions and she feels it has improved her memory skills and given
her more confidence in speaking out loud.'
