“As science, today becomes increasingly global and interdisciplinary, the idea of any scientist standing up like someone on the top of the Everest becomes increasingly inappropriate.”
Maurice Wilkins,The third man of the Double Helix”, 2003
"Steva Travaggio" means "Stefano Work" in the Genoese Dialect (Zeneize) spoken in Genova (Italy) where I was born and grew up!
This is my personal work related web site that I try to update quite regularly. Enjoy the visit...
I am working as a Research Scientist at the Institut national de recherche pour l’agriculture, l’alimentation et l’environnement (INRAE)
In September 2022, I joined the Plant Health Institute of Montpellier (PHIM) to work on virus-vector-plant interactions.
I try to develop and implement genomics approaches to better understand the biology "behind the genome". Francis Collins once said, referring to the Human Genome research, “We are in the Genome Era - we have mapped and identified most of the genes and we now have to understand their function(s)”.
I am interested in answering biology research questions using a combination of in silico and in vivo/in vitro experimental genomics approaches. To me, high-throughput based genomics research is not only a technical innovation but the spark of an intellectual revolution in modern biology research.
I enjoy the most interdisciplinary projects that are the essence of modern science, as is well said in Maurice Wilkins's citation at the top of this page. Teamwork and collaboration are driving forces for my research activity. For more details on my research experience, explore this web site ;-)
Even if I am not quite sure how online networking among researchers does work nowadays / will work in the future, I have profiles in Research Gate, LinkedIn, Scoop.it and Mendeley. For now, it might just allow me to keep in touch with former colleagues and friends working in science and to know what we are all up to. And I guess time will say if these profiles have been useful or not in other ways...
When not working I like learning from (in the order) people, movies and books. To relax I (not in the order) listen to music (classical most of the time, but not only), watch and listen to the sea, visit new places and hike in the mountains.
