Welcome to the dark mind of Edgar Allan Poe! Using an excerpt from his short story, The Fall of the House of Usher, I created a dark video to enlighten the viewers. The sounds consist of organ music, horse hooves, footsteps, thunder, crows, and other musical instruments. The photos I utilized depict images of the Gothic Era, and add to the mood of the literature. The reader's tone of voice was also changed to reflect the voice of the male narrator within the story. The interactions between the narrator, sounds, and images, conveys the foreboding description given in Poe's work. The photoscape proved to be the teacher, as I became the student in both technology and literature. I became more familiar and comfortable with audacity, while also becoming knowledgeable in Photo Story 3 for Windows. Both of these programs are free and accessible to the public, which makes an activity such as this readily available for all grade levels. Utilizing these programs required me to seriously consider the various effects and images that I wanted to reflect the tone and mood of the work. I thoroughly enjoyed this activity and I have already started to make another one! Enjoy! |
