Bible as StoryJesus and the GospelsFaith and MeaningChristian FragmentsMetamorphosis, Theosis"I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me." (Galatians 2:20) "All of us see the glory of the Lord with unveiled faces, "Beloved, we are God's children now. "If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory." (Colossians 3:1-4) "The Spirit and the Bride say, 'Come.' And let the one who hears say, 'Come.' And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price." "To sing is to pray twice."* If the goal of human life is to be "conformed to the image of the Son" (Rom 8:29) as one ascends the holy mountain, there is nothing better than plugging in to music that draws one upward and ever-deepens the imprint.
Recommendations: Danielle Rose (Mysteries), the live praise music of United (Hillsong), Millenium Three (Steubie youth conference), Passion Worship Band, Rebecca St. James (Live Worship), Newsboys (Adoration), Planetshakers, Third Day (Offerings I and II) and Michael W. Smith (Worship and Worship Again). The live music that Hillsong has made in the last five years or so is truly amazing, especially the last three United (Hillsong's youth) disks. Those who enjoy the song "Everyday" ("everyday it is You I live for") will be delighted in discovering United, the group that produced it and similar songs: "Take it All," "All Day," "From God Above," "Tell the World," "Kingdom Come," to identify only a few.
The Chronicles of Narnia CDs (HarperCollins version) are definitely worth the investment. (I believe I bought them through adoremus.com at a great price, under $40.) There is a different professional reader of each book: my favorites are the Duffle-pod scenes in Voyage of the Dawn Treader (great voices!), A Horse and His Boy, and The Magician's Nephew.
* This saying is attributed to St. Augustine, but I have not been able to locate it -- and I have seen it also attributed to Martin Luther. I would like to know its origin, so please let me know.
