Solar Mobile Platform

Objective


To design a mobile platform which will allow STEP to conveniently set up our two solar panels at any event.
The electrical system will connect to the electrical system of the bike generator to create a base load of power.
The platform will provide space to house and store our panels safely.

Design Criteria

Mobile Platform
- mobility, allowing transportation and setup at any outdoor event
- stability when set up
- angle requirements of 0 to 60 degrees, ideal for morning to noon to afternoons
- connection to one 123W and one 80W SHARP panel (likely to be two separate platforms for the sake of convenience)
- safe storage of our solar panels together with the platform (here's where the imagination is needed!)

Electrical System
- 12VDC output from the electrical system, in order to connect to the larger bike generator electrical system
- 12VDC battery with charge controller

Structural Material
- ties into mobility and easy to work with, ex. Wood, Aluminum

Cost
- low level criteria, but should be reasonable

Use

Like the bike generator project, the Solar Mobile Platform will be used at a variety of outdoor events, including:
  • demonstrations and fund raising
  • Engineering Frosh events
  • Canada Day events
