The Great Enclosure Design Challenge

The Great Enclosure Design Challenge

Task

Your task, if you choose to accept, is to design a layout that uses the Tariq's two enclosures that will house all our components.

Design Restrictions

- the combiner box does not appear to be able to fit in. It's a shame - we may have to ditch this large box (though the accessories they came with would still be used such as the rails and faceplate (with modifications). Replace the dimensions of the combiner box with a rail of breakers 120mm W*80mm D*70mm H.
- Wiring: take into consideration of wiring - assume a turning radius of 6cm for the wires.
- Heat (ventilation): take note that the charge controller and dump load are heat producing components and should therefore not be in proximity of the other components (may I suggest using the other enclosure? =)

Design Considerations

- Security: what safety measures should be implemented to prevent unauthorized opening of the enclosure?
- Visibility: we desire our project to be visible, neat and presentable.
- Inputs: 6 Input leads will come into a terminal block in the enclosure, and 1 AC output lead to a power bar

Material Availability

Feel free to include additional materials your design requires it, such as plexiglass (for a door?), aluminum brackets, etc, etc.

Resources

All component dimensions (bottom of page), pictures and specifications can be found at https://sites.google.com/site/stepengineeringuw2/Home/bike-generator/documentation

Components Required

Dump Load
Charge Controller
Combiner Box (replaced as rail of breakers ~120mm W*80mm D*70mm H)
Capacitor
Breaker Box
Inverter

Format

You may use whatever formatting you want. Pen and paper, sketch, CAD, or whatever you are familiar with that will effectively communicate the layout of the design. Dimensions are important though!

Deadline

Tues Nov. 16th

Submission

- email of scan/picture/pdf of design to me, at victorwyeung@gmail.com

Judging

Judging will be made by me with discussion amongst the team during our next meeting (Nov 18).

**Partial designs will be considered, so present whatever ideas you got!**

Prize

TBD =O
