Journey into Dyslexia

HBO Movie Viewing and Panel Discussion

 

 
Journey into Dyslexia presents profiles of students and adults with dyslexia who share their experiences of struggling in school and then succeeding in life. Academy-Award winning filmmakers Alan and Susan Raymond examine the complexities of this differently structured brain and debunk the myths and misperceptions about dyslexia.


Among the notable adults with dyslexia who recount their struggles and triumphs in the film are consumer advocate Erin Brockovich; Ben Foss, inventor of the Intel Reader; Steve Walker, New England Pellet founder and CEO; micro sculptor Willard Wigan; and Dr. Carol Greider, 2009 Nobel Laureate in Physiology and Medicine.

 

Journey into Dyslexia originally aired on HBO2 on May 11, 2011.  The movie will be followed by panel discussions including members from Northern California Branch of The International Dyslexia Association (NCBIDA).

The mission of Stellar Academy, located in Alameda County, is to assist children with dyslexia overcome academic challenges through the Slingerland® approach.

After School Tutoring Club

 Unlocking the Door of Language
 
Stellar Academy for Dyslexics is piloting a tutoring group for 3rd – 5th graders struggling with symptoms of dyslexia.  Students who are new to the Slingerland® approach are invited to be part of this exciting opportunity.

Dates:  January 17 – March 8, 2012

(Tuesdays & Thursdays)

Time:   3:30 – 4:30 PM

Cost:    $480 (16 sessions @ $30/hr)

Requirements:  Slingerland® Screening ($385)

Registration Deadline: January 6, 2012
