Useful Links

I have provided some links for both the students and parents to visit. They are all educational, and some we will use/visit in clas, but I guarantee everyone will have a great time on each site while learning so much!  This list will grow as we go throughout the year and I post links that directly relate to content being studied in the classroom.  Let your websurfing begin.

Science Discovery Kids This is a great website for the students to visit to learn about many different things on some of their favorite Discovery Kids shows! They can learn about animals, science, and so much more!
Social Studies National Geographic Kids Here is another website for the students to visit. They can play games, read articles, and watch videos relating to animals, social studies, and history!
Social Studies Time for Kids At this website, students can read articles about current issues in the world in a very child-friendly manner. Some of these articles could definitely be discussed in class.
Reading Scholastic This is a very family friendly site. There is a section for both parents and children, and both have a lot to offer. In the children section, they can take quizzes, participate in polls, learn fun facts, explore books, learn about science, and much more. In the parent section, there are discussion boards to participate in and many avenues for advice to parents about their child in every level of development.
Science Kid's Health This is an amazing website full of different articles about staying healthy. There is a section for kids, teens, and parents, with articles relating to these different groups. The students will visit this site many times during the year to read articles we will discuss in class.
All subjects The North Pole I have been a huge fan of this website ever since I discovered it many years ago. Besides being absolutely fun to visit, especially around Christmas time, the site is FULL of activities for students. They can create their own stories, read stories about Santa’s workshop, participate in math activities, and even games (ex: memory and puzzles). The students can also email their Christmas list to Santa or send Christmas e-cards. While this website is very fun, I find it quite educational. It's a personal favorite of mine.
Math Cool Math for Kids The site has many activities and games over a wide variety of content areas in math. There are units on decimals and fractions, which are very informative. Students can run their own lemonade stand, where they have to set the price of lemonade based on the weather and take into account customer satisfaction along with many other factors. Students can also work on addition/subtraction, multiplication/division, long division, and geometry. This would be a great website for students to get some extra practice on the content being covered in their math lessons.
Art Destination: Modern Art This website is a very fun and interactive website about art. Students are taken through an art gallery where they can click on different pieces of art, learning about the artist and participating in activities related to the art piece. Through the website, students are able to learn about some modern artists and also other well-known artists such as Frida Kahlo, Vincent Van Gough, and Pablo Picasso. This site provides a fun and interactive way to begin exploring the world of art!
Social Studies Weekly Reader This is a good website to use for kid-friendly current events. The website has the events divided into categories of social studies, language arts, science, etc. This would be a great website for the kids to visit to learn even more about topics we discuss in class.
All subjects Yahoo Kids At this website, the kids search safely for any research being done, and the site also provides a homework helper.
All subjects Smithsonian Institution This website offers a lot of learning for the students. There is a kids section where they can learn about everything in Smithsonian museums right in the comfort of their homes! The site is very interactive; the kids can play games while learning about science, art, history, nature, people, and culture. I will have the students visit this site to follow up on what we are learning in class.
Math National Library of Virtual Manipulatives This site has every math manipulative on it that you can imagine! I will use this website quite a bit in class, and I will let the students know when it will help them with math homework. This site will help reinforce what we learn in math, AND it's so much fun to use!
Social Studies Harcourt Social Studies This is the website that goes along with our text book. The students can go here for games and activities to supplement our book.
Science Space Simulator On this site, you can simulate anything in space. You can look at the view of Earth from Mars, or look at the view of Saturn from Jupiter, etc. The possibilities are endless!!
Reading Letter Generator This is a cool site where the kids can write their own letters. It has them enter each part of the letter, and then at the end, a letter is generated for them. It's a very fun, interactive website, and we enjoy using it in class.
Reading Harland and Wolff This website is FILLED with pictures, audio, video and other related information/primary sources about the Titanic. There is so much interesting information, you could spend HOURS on the site reading everything!!
Reading RMS Titanic: Ship of Dreams This website has much information about icebergs, the different people on the Titanic, and the story of Titanic. There are pictures of the ship and advertisements of the time. There is also a section about how Titanic is the perfect example of Murphey's Law. There is so much interesting information on this site; it's worth checking out!
Reading RMS Titanic: The Unsinkable Ship This website has some information about the Titanic and Harland and Wolff, but much of the site is related to the 1997 film. There is a link to take you to a website about the film, where you can watch interviews with cast members, and behind the scenes footage.
Reading Titanic Story This website has the complete story of the Titanic--information from while Titanic was being built, during her maiden voyage, and everything that happened after Titanic sank. The site doesn't have too many visuals, but the information is well worth the read.
All subjects Harcourt: Pompeii This website is all about the legendary city of Pompeii in Italy. There's information about the volcano, Mount Vesuvius, an eye witness account of the disaster, and you can even tour a typical home during this time period!
All subjects Discovery: Pompeii This website is full of information about Pompeii. There's a Pompeii quiz, information on volcanos and videos of volcanos erupting! We will watch a video clip from the documentary in class.
Science Rice Experiment This is the video that shows the process and results of the rice experiment we completed for the science fair. This video is what gave me the idea to do this with the class.
Social Studies Anne Frank House This is the website for the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam. This is where Anne and her family hid from the Nazi's during WWII for two years. I have been there personally, and it was an amazing experience. The website offers a lot of info about Anne and her family, the others living in the secret annex, and so much more about that time period. You can also take a virtual tour of the annex complete with audio to guide you through the different rooms!
Social Studies TFK Sample Research Paper This sample paper can be used as an example/guide for the culture research reports. They do not have to format it the same (with the questions as section headings), but having similar topics together in one paragraph, and strong intros and conclusions are things I am looking for.
