an optional event Program Requirements - Sophomore Year
Public School Students: Public school students are expected to attend all scheduled sessions: large group, small group, off-campus events, service projects, and retreat. During their Sophomore year, students will focus on Church History and Morality in small group sessions. Sophomores are in a unique position in the high school career and spiritual growth. No longer freshmen, they are faced with many challenging choices and decisions both socially and in their faith. We will attempt to discuss these issues while exploring the Catholic teachings on Morality, and by looking at the tradition of the Catholic Church, the struggles it has undergone to define what it is to be Catholic, and the examples of faith found there in - from the apostles, the martyrs and saints, and other leaders. Catholic School Students: Catholic school students are expected to attend all scheduled large group, off-campus events, and service projects. For retreat requirements, see the Retreat section under “Program Requirements: General Information.” Students are strongly encouraged, although not required, to attend small group sessions, seeing as the material is discussed in the Catholic schools. However, Catholic school students offer a different perspective and bring different knowledge and experiences to the discussion, and can be a great addition to the community. They will have to live their lives as Catholics alongside those with less theological education. Christian Formation emphasizes the participation in the life of the parish community, as well as the universal Church. As discussed above, sophomore year presents many challenges to student’s faith, and their lives in general. They can draw strength from their parish community, learn much from their peers, and share their own wisdom. |
