Parody © 2006 by Lauren Renée Hotchkiss) (written for Lezlie Kinyon and the Starlight Circle Players November, 2006) (Used by permission, all rights reserved.) VERSE 1 Not so long ago, I can still remember When Lezlie first walked through my door. She told me that she had a dream, And maybe if we’d form a team We could do a play like no one’s seen before. And as she talked I grew excited, She asked if I wrote songs, and I did. And though I’d just met her Soon I was Musical Director. I can’t remember if I cried As I signed upon the dotted line But I knew that we would have good times The day Starlight was formed. CHORUS (Well) Alright, can you see the starlight, Shining like a diamond through the dark of the night. We’re staging plays and doing magical rites Well, tell me can you see the starlight. Tell me can you see the starlight. VERSE 2 Well, we got started right away Workin’ on our Celtic Play, About a girl named Marilee How she met up with a Firefly, A Blues Frog, and sang I Can Fly As she moved forward toward her destiny Her journey it would lead her far On her quest to touch the stars. And before that Swindlefische Could turn her into a quiche. We Forest Elves did all we could To get her through the Wilde Woode, And thank the Goddess, as well we should For the day Starlight was formed. We started singing [CHORUS] VERSE 3 Well the first show was so much fun We thought we’d do another one, And this time take it to the sea. So we got Blackbeard and Billy Bones, And we’ll send ships to Davy Jones And have a little fun with piracy, And as our crew storms ‘cross the stage, With cutlasses in fists of rage. It’ll be the coolest thing you’ve seen; Since the Pirates of the Caribbean. And as we go from cue to cue, All of us in the cast and crew, And we’re hoping all of you Will be glad Starlight was formed. We’ll be singing, [CHORUS] VERSE 4 But on January 21st When Blackbeard gives his final curse, Dead Men will come to a close. But we won’t be done so don’t go away ’cause we’re working on some exciting plays, And we’ll be back next summer don’t you know. And though February may make us shiver, Stagecraft classes we’ll deliver. There in the cold and damp; We’ll hold our Winter Camp. We’ve got exciting plans and yet, Though I’ll look forward to what we’ll do next, I still recall how we first met The day Starlight was formed. And we were singing, [CHORUS] TAG CHORUS We were singing, “Alright can you see the starlight. Shining like a diamond through the dark of the night. We’re staging plays and doing magical rites Well tell me can you see the Starlight. |
