…I have a story to tell of where I went when I was young; but now I go nowhere,
sitting like a stone in this place, in this ground, in this Valley.
I have come where I was going.” U. K. Le Guin Always Coming Home

Happy Thanksgiving!

From Yer Editrix…
For the next several issues, while Yer Editrix takes a break from editorializing and directs The Ring, A Mummer’s Play for Yule (
Now Playing! Play Schedule -) , this space will be filled by TSCP Core Group members holding forth on any subject he or she chooses.  …    So, except to say, my friends, go forth and VOTE Nov. 3:  “Peace is not the absence of war, but a virtue based on strength of character.” --Baruch Spinoza, 1632-1677.  May we choose wisely.  Wishing you the happiest of Thanksgivings with those you love the best. I now hand over the editorial pen ... err… keyboard to Tatyanna Wilkinson, Founding Member and Core Group Member.   Yer Editrix, Lezlie

As a volunteer one has hopes of somehow being eventually paid for your (collective you) services, but the foundation of volunteering is giving your time to a cause you are passionate about. When we are considering taking on a volunteer role within an organization, we should be clear and vocal about what services we are offering as a volunteer and which services we will not perform in this capacity. For many of us, the services we offer as volunteers, if we cost them out, would easily amount to well into thousands of dollars a month.
As a person who both volunteers and works simultaneously as a consultant for several organizations, payment for certain services is contracted and we delineate the services which I will perform for free and within which parameters.  Often, when the organization is grass roots we work out a barter system.  This has been a very rewarding practice.
If these issues are not clarified at the start, there is potential for misunderstandings and resentments to develop on both sides.  We, as volunteers, need to be very honest with ourselves and each other as to where our professional boundaries lie.
Within TSCP, I can't see any of us getting paid unless there is just compensation for all. But, until the day when TSCP is an organization with independent funding, the TSCP volunteer machine will have to try to work within its capacity.  From time to time this may mean facing the reality of some projects not coming to fruition.
If we all had the ability fund our passions and endless time, wouldn't the world be a much more magical place?  Alas we must work towards bringing our creative dreams to bare through our collective talents and commitment to each other and the work.
