An Open Letter From the Board of Bards

Dearest  Pyrates, Little Girls, Frogs, Goddesses, Gods, Mummers, Midwinter Faery Spirits -and- all the Members and Friends of The Starlight Circle Players,

While Starlit Tales will not cease publication, and the currently scheduled plays, The Goddess Cycle and A Midwinter's Tale will happen as planned (the first GC meeting is still Nov. 2) Lauren, Ardys, and Lezlie acting as the TSCP The Board of Bards need to let you know that for a number of legal, liability-related, administrative, and artistic reasons, as of Tuesday October 6, 2009, The Starlight Circle Players, no longer exists as an entity.  This was a difficult, but necessary decision.

We will keep  the TSCP Facebook page, TSCP's website, the TSCP announce list, Mummer's production Google list, and the "Goddesses" blog pages (https://sites.google.com/site/goddesscycle/ ) for our present and future use [for as long as they are needed].  The "web presence" pages will be will be renamed when a new performance entity name is selected.   Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding as we create this transition. Feel free to contact any of us to talk about this change of status.

What will happen?  The staged plays (A Midwinter's Tale & The Buried Moon)  Magical Acts International Association and the Sacred Theatre and Ritual Performance (The Goddess Cycle) works will come under the umbrella of The Fellowship of the Spiral Path (http://www.thespiralpath.org/ )  as an as yet un-named Circle dedicated to performance.

Starlit Tales
will also be in transition as a publication, but will not go out of business, please send your announcements, letters, reviews, job leads, and short essays to: Ardys, editrix: ST <firedeer_at_yahoo.com>. Starlit Tales may go on as either a MAIA publication  or it may become an independent newsletter dedicated to theatre and - especially - to sacred and ritual performance

What does this mean for you?
(Answers in order of production performance:)

The Goddess Cycle; A Ritual of Renewal: (Feb. 2010): Working within The Fellowship of the Spiral Path rather than as a collaborator will allow us to create sacred and ritual performances without charging admission fees.  (Although a strictly voluntary donation will be asked for by the ritual facilitators to pay for the Hall.)   Further, after this performance is complete, by creating a Circle within that organization we may be able to explore this kind of theatre further and at great depth.  We will also be able to raise funds through direct donations to take this performance to a festival if we decide to do that.  There are roles still open for the Goddess Cycle, please contact Lezlie or Lauren (off-list) for further information. How and who would be involved after Imbolc and/or on an ongoing basis will have to be discussed over time.  (We do not imagine this to be a "closed" or "invitational  circle", but many details still have to be work out).

A Midwinter's Tale: In the Court of the Holly King (Dec. 2010): This move will both allow us to find a longsword dance team for a true collaboration as  well as help us to raise energy and money for the stage productions in conjunction with the Board of MAIA. This new relationship will give us the foundation we need to create a beautiful, far more professional, and fun-to-create Midwinter Play.

We are schedule for November and December at The Albany Veteran's
Memorial Hall in Albany, http://www.acgov.org/veterans/albany/index.htm  with a day in August 2010 at the same location for auditions.  (You can arrange for a private audition if the day isn't good for you.)  As venue and liability costs are high and it is necessary to raise funding to pay for the hall, promotions, costuming, lights, sound, and all the other essentials.  It has always been our dream to make this an annual event, with a new playwright and director team each year, as a MAIA-sponsored production, there is a much better chance of that happening.

Keep meditating on your role in A Midwinter's Tale, and stay in touch with Lauren concerning the music and myself concerning the design of the production itself. (Many roles both on and off-stage are still open.)

Other plays:

The Buried Moon is still in the "Creation Stage" and Lauren's play A Question of Sanity is in hiatus pending funding.   Kay Pannel's play, Mustering Back  is under development as a MAIA production, I urge you to support this important production by contacting her directly: "Kay Pannell" kay_pannell_at_hotmail.com  Thank you and we look forward to meeting with and working to create theatre magic with all of you now and in any future production we may dream up.

BB!  Lauren, Ardys, and Lezlie,
