AHIMSA Series –Tea and Talk on Tuesdays The World's First Temple: Göbekli Tepe Don Frew,Director of the Lost Endangered Religions Project February 17th, 2009, 7:30pm-9:30 pm Berkeley Buddhist Monastery – Institute for World Religions 2304 McKinley Ave at Bancroft , Berkeley, CA 94703. Near Central Berkeley BART.(The presentation will include visuals, Q and A, and refreshments. Excavations there have so far uncovered three megalithic stone rings covered with animal carvings – part of a religious structure dated to the 11th Millennium BC. This site predates the invention of agriculture & was being built while Europe was still in the throes of the last Ice Age. This presentation will describe the structures found to date, explain the significance of the site, and show images from visits to the site in 2005 2008 and of artifacts from the site now in the Museum of Urfa in Turkey. The presentation will be followed by refreshments, Q & A, and community conversation. The event is FREE although donations to AHIMSA are welcome. We hope you will join us! Don Frew is an Elder in the Bay Area's Wiccan community. He has been doing ongoing interfaith work on behalf of the Craft for over 23 years, serving as a Nat. Interfaith Representative for the Covenant of the Goddess, on the Board of the Interfaith Center at the Presidio, on the Global Council of the United Religions Initiative, and in the Assembly of the Parliament of the World's Religions. He is the founder Director of the Lost & Endangered Religions Project, a non-profit group working with marginal religious communities around the globe to preserve the world's religious diversity.

Deer Creek Morris Men Recruiting Dancers
Deer Creek Morris Men can take a few new men. Do you have good legs? Good wind? Some attitude? Possibly you've seen Morris dancing at Mad Sal's and Fezziwig's, or at a renaissance faire near you. Possibly you've thought, "I could do that." Maybe-- not everybody can. But we'll give you a try. Musicality and coordination are a big help. Also an interest in joining an English tradition that was old in Will Shakespeare's day. (There are over 250 active teams in North America doing some form of morris or other "ritual" display dancing.) Deer Creek practices on Goat Hill in San Francisco (OK, Potrero Hill to some) on Wednesday nights, 8-10 pm . First practice of the New Year will be Jan. 14. Weekend performance high season generally runs from May Day through Summer Solstice at various locations around the bay area. Contact Squire Dick Bagwell (510-548-1206, dickbagwell@yahoo.com) or Foreman Ethan Hay (415-332-1430, ethan_hay@yahoo.com). And look atwww.deercreekmorris.info

CFP: Annual Conference of the American Society for Theatre Research

Deadline Feb. 1st 2009

Annual Conference of the American Society for Theatre Research (http://www.astr.org) and the Theatre Library Association (http://tla.library.unt.edu/) San Juan, Puerto Rico—11-15 November 2009 - Condado Plaza Hotel and Casino
Theatre, Performance, and DestiNation
Theatre shares with travel a set of expectations related to discovery and encounter, a reprieve from the quotidian, and a longing forreturn. Theatre and performance studies scholarship offers similar vistas. As both journey and destination, theatre and related performance forms—as well as scholarship about them—encompass a range of experiences from pilgrimage to voyeuristic consumption, producing effects that linger and can transform the once-familiar terrain of “home.“

Friends—     Announcing the next zesty fricassee out of The Mythic Kitchen.  Served up starting Jan. 23rd, orders now being taken.  RASH ACTS offers five stories about hope, illusion, and the politics of daily life, staged as live theatrical animations by six actors and thirty-two brash puppets.  It's written, directed, and designed by Conrad Bishop & Elizabeth Fuller and performed by those actors who created last year's DESCENT OF THE GODDESS INANNA. A young couple trapped for life on the freeway, an aged man beset by swarms of telemarketers, a dead queen resurrected in shadow, a magical baby who grows too big for his diaper, and a grown-up Alice who falls down the rabbit hole into the evening news.  Vivid short stories in strange, yet strangely familiar, new worlds.
RASH ACTS plays Fridays and Saturdays, 8 p.m. on January 23-24, 30-31, and February 6-7 at Spreckels Performing Arts Center, 5409 Snyder Lane in Rohnert Park. Tickets thru Brown Paper Tickets,  http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/50133 or 800-838-3006 — a great broker with a very low service fee.  More information:  707-824-4307 or http://www.independenteye.org. Peace & joy for the new year—
Conrad Bishop & Elizabeth Fuller

We Welcome
Ritchie Beltrans. A recent surprise, guest accompanist of Jamie Fender and David Cronin.  We first heard Ritchie as a rippin' lead guitarist for the Fender Cronin Band.  But he is best known for his combined harmonica, guitar support of his original material.  Balladeer/Rocker Ritchie Beltrans is a breath of fresh air.  Majestic, powerful, sincere and solid like the exposed rock of the mountain.  He plays with energy, conviction and compelling artistry.
Suggested Donation $7-10

The Eighth International Conference on Neuroesthetics Reflections on Mirror Neurons - Mirrors of Reality?  It’s that time again! This year, our Eighth International Conference on Neuroesthetics will host a day of lively discussion on “Reflections on Mirror Neurons - Mirrors of Reality?” Some scientists believe Mirror Neurons are the most important neuroscience discovery in the last decade. Their existence in humans, however, has yet to be confirmed. If operating in humans, mirror neurons—those that fire both when an animal acts and when the animal observes the same action by another animal—could tell us a lot about how healthy brains learn through imitation and how those with autism might be affected by problems with neural networks involving mirror neurons.  Please join us as internationally renowned scientists and philosophers address a range of questions, from “How do we read the minds of others?” to “Do we read intentions into works of art?”  The Eighth International Conference on Neuroesthetics Reflections on Mirror Neurons - Mirrors of Reality? Saturday, January 17, 2009 Berkeley Art Museum University of California, Berkeley Registration at http://plaisir.berkeley.edu is free but required for admittance. Letters to the Editor:

Seeking Co-Host~!
spectorpaints@gmail.com

SARAH SPECTOR  I am planning a radio show from which I will do 10 minute clairvoyant readings for callers-in.
A New Age show ("Stargate to the New Earth") found me on the web last year and had me on their show doing this live for about an hour. It was unusually successful, getting enthusiastic responses from listeners.
So now I will do my own show. But since I'll be in a light trance for reading, I won't really be able to efficiently manage the chat room and
field calls.
On Blogtalk Radio, this is a simple affair. But I prefer that the co-host  take care of that job while I read. It would be nice if the co-host and I could have some light, natural banter or discussion as well.
So I'm looking for a willing volunteer, which I believe will make a significant contribution to the world through peoples' ears and spirits. Ultimately, I would like to do this on a wider scale (media-wise).

This was absolutely fascinating -- a 16-year study of stars at the center of our galaxy, circling around a massive black hole, made into a video.  A word of caution -- pick the format you want to watch carefully as the highest resolution ones take forever to download. Oh honey. So sorry to hear it! Francesca Gentille

I'm very sorry to hear this. Deborah

Well, condolences.  I know that feeling.  Rule of Theatre #67(b):  You're entitled to two good hits of whatever your favorite Holiday Cheer is.  Repeat as needed.  But a fresh new year is upon us  May it be good for you both. Wassail! Dick

News you needed  what shooting stars really are: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=_94vn4B_Z20 ~ Sally.

The first violin in the local philharmonic had a friend who played the cello. The friend, who was quite good, wanted to audition for the philharmonic. There was an opening, but auditions were hard to arrange. So he went to the violinist and asked for help. Said his friend, "Don't worry about it. I'll pull some strings." (chooses to be anonymous)

In this troubled time, it is always good to remember what unites us rather than what divides us. Like music. Enjoy. Happy New Year!
