All Mummers, This play must go before the re-created governance board and be proposed at the Troupe
Convocation a 2nd time to make this happen. Please stay in touch. Should all go well (and, all of you interested should chime in here!), I will then re-activate the Mumming for Yule
list & post a note there & in the newsletter close to Summer
Solstice with a date & time of convening for the 2009 Mummer's
play. (I would be really interested in discussing this project with a play
director.) At this time:
Lauren is working on arranging the music, Matthew has choreographed a
wonderful fight sequence (you don't need to be a fencing expert), and
there are three costumers interested. Ric Goldman who works on a Bay
Area-wide Morris & Longsword society is also on-board for 2009. We
have a TON of stuff donated that we can use. Meanwhile,
at some point I would like to suggest that the idea of an annual
Mumming event be discussed as an agenda item by the re-formed
governance board and at the Full Troupe Convocation. BB! Lezlie Core

Sacred
Play/Ritual Theater: This is a ritual that has theater elements.
This is intended to be a purification rite for combat veterans, to
allow returning vets to be given the space and time to re-adjust
their minds, spirits, and emotions. The ritual allows them to
transition out of the battlefield “head space” and back
into the civilian world. There is a theater presentation at the
beginning, which sets the stage for their journey. They will be
taken through different rooms to undergo specific ritual
purifications at each area. The venue will be the USS Hornet, and
they will be taken through the “Underworld” of the ships
passages and rooms to each purification spot. At the end, they
re-immerge into a banquet hall.
From yer editrix,
This month Starlit Tales returns to bi-monthly publication until, once again, we are in production for a play. The deadline for the March/April issue will be February 20th. While I cannot guarantee that your event will make it onto the member's or events pages if you miss the deadline, the events pages have a somewhat "rolling deadline" and are updated whenever one of us has time to do it, for all letters to the ed, reviews, essays, art, and opinion pieces, please honor the 2/20 deadline. Send submissions to starlightcircleplayers-at-yahoo.com with "newsletter" in the subject line.
We've had a season of unexpected crises that forced the closure of our Yule production. The events of this past month have taught me that the old adage of "the best laid plans" do, indeed, go awry in ways that no one can plan for. Some members of the cast of The Ring experienced the worst that life can hand them: divorce, a terrible crime against a family member, serious illnesses, even the death of a loved one. (Lauren Hotchkiss has written a ballad about this production, reproduced later in this issue
). The events of this past year have served to begin a process of reinvention for the members of TSCP's Core group and those Star Holders who continue to "play" with us. This "reinvention" process portends to be a time of change and of visioning for all, and it is hoped that TSCP will emerge stronger and very much more grounded as an entity. As always, your input and letters are welcome.
From the bottom of my heart, I thank Dean Jones, Joshua Jones, Katie L. White, Dawn Davison, Pauline Stengl, Martin Linhart, Evelie S. Posch, Herb de Grasse, Ren Monson, Katarina Bock, Lauren Renee Hotchkiss, Matthew Carauddo, Michelle Johnson, Hallie Frazer, Amy Baldwin and Entanglement Sword, and, finally, Andy Anderson at One World Walk, Listen for Life. May we all find healing and peace and I know that the
hearts of every member and friend of TSCP go out to these fine people and with many good wishes for a New Year without tears and full of love and laughter. This month's editorial closes with an offering, a song written by a dear friend. Until March, Yer Editrix, Lezlie
May your road be smooth
And when it is not
May you always remember
The road is all you've got
Up and down, round the bend
To the top then back again
The question is the lesson
'Cause when you know
That you don't know
Then you know Everything
Now the days draw dark
As the year dies down
And the spring lies
Frozen in the fallow ground
Bide your time, mind the fire
No belief is required
The seasons teach the reason
That we cycle around
Again and again
Every ending a Beginning
And if things should fall apart
May Kindness be your finest work of art
May you dream
May you dwell
May you drink from the well
Drink from the Well of your Heart
May you Drink from the Well of Your Heart
