Animal guests had the opportunity to test their bravery by running through the agility tunnel. Treats were awarded to those who made it at least half-way through. It also gave some of the shelter dogs a chance to socialize with other people and their pets as well as raise awareness about adoption. We have not gotten the final tally of money raised, but it is likely that the event accomplished one of its goals as a fundraiser for the OCHS. There were 3 Big Dawg level sponsors and 8 Fabulous Feline level sponsors. Lions volunteering at the event included Kathy Sherman-Morris, who was in charge of the raffle and also helped with planning Bark in the Park, setting up and tearing down on the day of the event and Karin Lee, Jenny Lee and Piyush Porwal who arrived bright and early to help with the 5K race and other set up as needed. The day was fairly chilly for October, which may have kept the number of attendees down a bit, but the sun was out for a good part of the time. Some of the demonstrations included a pet-CPR lesson, an agility demonstration, and a parade of breeds.Sonoma in StarkvilleSeptember 12, 2009SMC Lions participation at Sonoma, fund-raising event of Starkville Education Foundation was a huge success in that we got an opportunity to help the Starkville community raise funds for public education.
