Toyon is an all-sophomore dormitory located on East campus between Crothers and Branner.  Since it is sophomore priority, it tends to be one of the most popular choices every year for rising freshman, since the in-house draw will be run by draw number only.  In other words, all sophomores have an equal chance of getting the good rooms, which are amazingly nice.  Most of the rooms are two-room doubles, but there are also a few singles and a handful of one-room doubles.  Although the rooms are not equipped with private sinks like the ones in Branner, they are of comparable size.
In addition to nice rooms, Toyon has one of the roomiest and most elaborate lounges out of any residence on campus.  It can house over 500 people, and is often used by various groups for concerts and shows.  While it is definitely not a concert hall of any kind, it is very elaborate and well furnished lounge.  Toyon also has another smaller lounge that can be used when the main lounge is in use.
This year, the cutoff draw number for men was 1254, and 1241 for women, so your draw number had to be better than (smaller than) 1254 or 1241, depending on your gender in order to get into the residence.  In fact, it was so popular amongst sophomores that it was harder to get into Toyon than many of the row houses.
In the past Toyon was well known for its eating clubs.  Residents did not purchase the campus-wide dining plan employed at places like Wilbur or Stern.  Instead, they would have their own Toyon-exclusive dining plan that allowed them to eat at the eating clubs located right behind the Toyon building complex.  However, starting in the 2009-2010 school year, Stanford Residential Dining took over the eating clubs, so now residents have an even wider choice of dining options.  One thing that is not clear at the moment is whether the open kitchens will still be in place for the 09-10 school year.
