Starting in the 2009-2010 school year, Branner, long known as one of the nicest dormitories, will be a 3-class residence instead of all-freshman. In other words, only sophomores and higher will be allowed to live here. This was part of a measure by Stanford Housing to better the quality of housing for on-campus houses for upper-classmen. This measure changed most of the room configurations in Branner from two-room triples, as it has been in the past, to two-room doubles. As a result, this year's cutoff for getting into Branner was 985 for men, and 1179 for women--pretty stiff competition for a 3-class residence. It is important though, to note that Branner will be a focus house with a public service theme. This means that most of the spots in the residence will be allocated to those who sign up for Branner through preassignment, a process where students can opt to not participate in the draw, and instead be placed automatically in a particular residence. If you are new to focus housing and preassignments in general, you might want to check out the focus house page first before you read on. | |||||||||||||||
