Next dean named for GSB 
Economist Garth Saloner, a scholar of entrepreneurship and business strategy, will be the next dean of Stanford University's Graduate School of Business, President John Hennessy and Provost John Etchemendy announced May 26.

A new public experiment brings conversations with some of Stanford's most interesting people to Facebook. 

iPhone course hits 1 million downloads 
Free videos of Stanford's wildly popular course on creating applications for the iPhone and iPod touch have now been downloaded a million times from Stanford's site on iTunes U in the iTunes Store. 

Endowment spending adjusted downward 
Stanford plans to reduce the amount of money it will spend from the endowment over the next two years, a move that is likely to result in additional budget cuts, President Hennessy announced April 30.

Early antiretroviral treatment key for HIV-positive patients 
HIV-positive patients can reduce their risk of death or other complications by half if they get antiretroviral treatment early on, according to a new multicenter trial led by researchers at the School of Medicine.

Three faculty named to endowed chairs 
Tobias Meyer, PhD, professor of chemical and systems biology, has been appointed the Mrs. George A. Winzer Professor in Chemistry. Ronald Pearl, MD, professor and chair of the Department of Anesthesia, has been named the Richard K. and Erika N. Richards Professor. Robert Robbins, MD, professor and chair of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery and director of the Stanford Cardiovascular Institute, has been appointed the Thelma and Henry Doelger Professor of Cardiovascular Surgery II.
