Welcome!

Laurie Jennifer Stock - "Standing By Night"

Navigation

If you haven't been here before, allow me to introduce myself.  My name is Laurie Stock. I am an "intercessory missionary" at the International House of Prayer (IHOP). Until recently, I was on the NightWatch: hence the name of this site.  I "stood by night in the house of the Lord" (Psalm 134).

Now I stand by morning-and-sometimes-afternoon, which- though an equally necessary part in maintaining a 24/7 prayer ministry- just doesn't have the same ring to it.

With the change came the facelift to my site's look and feel.  This website, like my life, is in the midst of massive transition.  Please excuse the dust and rough edges.

I have decided the name the name still fits, based on the following passage:

"But you, brothers, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. You are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet."
       ~1 Thess. 5:4-8

I use this site to share about my days in the Prayer Room, and to give others a chance to catch a vision for what the Lord is doing here, why I'm on this "journey" and where I'm headed, and what it's like to "Stand By Night."

  • IHOP News:
    • onething 2008: Kansas City. Dec. 28-31.  IHOP is really emphasizing eschatology (the study of the "end-times") lately.  In fact, the entire format of the upcoming onething conference is going to be altered this year.  Picture 15,000 teenagers and young adults sitting in on a condensed (but not watered-down) walk-through of the book of Revelation.  That's what's going to happen this year.  All the afternoon breakout sessions have even been canceled, so everyone can join Mike Bickle in the main auditorium as he leads everyone through Revelation.  It should be interesting, controversial, informative, eye-opening, and intense.

  • My News:
    • My December Newsletter is "hot off the press!" (...ahem... finally...)
    • Please note my updated address.  I have not yet updated the address listed on my support cards (working on it!), but mail sent there will not reach me.  My new address is 4005 East 107th Terr, Kansas City, MO 64137.
    • The way I serve at IHOP is about to change again.  My "work scholarship" with the janitorial department will be up at the end of this year.  I have been so grateful for how this job "filled in the gaps" in my support raising.  Unfortunately, it has also cut me off from what I came here to do, what I enjoy doing, and (most importantly) from you, my supporters.  My priorities became skewed, and my schedule became... full.  Combined with lack of transportation and lack of internet at home...  Well, unless you are friends with me on Facebook (which I can access with my cellphone), we probably lost touch.

Come January 1, I will be back to relying solely on support.  And that makes rent a once again insurmountable task without God.  There is a possibility of me getting a work scholarship running sound (which would be amazing!), but I cannot fully count on it.
    • I am planning on visiting Chicago and taking some time off.  I'm looking at taking a month off or so, to reconnect, regroup, recoup, refocus, etc.  For more on my future plans (all tentative), see my December Newsletter (link listed above)
