Here is the group before departure from Stalybridge station. © emm - svta 2009 | A group of pupils from West Hill School was the first group of young people from Stalybridge to visit their new twin town of Armentières.
During a week's tour of France, Belgium and Holland in May 1956, they were received by the Deputy Mayor in Armentières Town Hall
before being shown round the town and visiting local government offices, the library and a technical school. Mr. James Lowe, an ex-pupil, accompanied them to photograph the tour.
