Armentières in Bloom

Two short items from the December 2007 edition of Le Journal d'Armentières (English versions).

On 30th October, the second flower was placed on the signs at the six entrances to the town.

Armentières has just obtained a second flower in the regional Towns and Villages in Bloom competition. It's the second flower in two years. On 30th October, this flower was placed on the signs at the entrances to the town. So from now on, when you enter Armentières from La Chapelle d'Armentières, Houplines, Nieppe, Erquinghem-Lys and from Belgium, you can see the words 'Armentières ville fleurie' ['Armentières, Town in Bloom'] with the two flowers.

In Bloom award on the other side of the Channel

Armentières' twin town, Stalybridge, is part of Tameside, which has just won first place in the 'North West in Bloom' competition. So Tameside has been rewarded for the quality of its floral presentation just at the same time as Armentières obtained its second flower.
