Gymnasts' Visit to Armentières Postponed

The visit to Armentières of a group of 20 young gymnasts was due to take place from 11th to 14th September 2009. We were, however, asked to postpone the visit because of concerns arising from the current flu epidemic. This was in line with advice issued by the French Government regarding visits of school and young persons' groups. It is hoped that the visit will be rescheduled for early in 2010.

At the moment, we urgently need a Committee Secretary.
If you could fit this role, please contact us.
It is not necessary to be able to speak French.
However, if you do speak the language, there is plenty of opportunity to use it.
 

Junior Football Tournament in Armentières (posted on 29.01.09)

An under-13s team from Stalybridge Celtic Juniors is due to play at the JAA International Tournament in Armentières on 12th and 13th April. The team of 15 players and 3 Managers/coaches will travel on 10th April and return after the tournament on 13th April. They will be taking parents of players, as well as other supporters from Stalybridge.  
 

Celtic Junior Tournament (posted on 29.01.09)

Celtic Juniors have once again invited 2 junior teams from Armentières to play in their tournament on 16th and 17th May (please note the recent change of dates). The teams will arrive on the evening of 8th May, and leave on the morning of 11th May. As well as playing in Celtic's tournament, they will visit either Manchester United or Manchester City stadium. As usual, they will be accommodated at Tameside Sea Cadets, which they love.
  

Talk on Armentières and the Twinning Link

The Chair of SVTA will be preparing a Powerpoint presentation and talk about Armentières and the various twinning activities, including the ups and downs (and there have been many, over the years!). Plenty of photos will  be included. This will be available to community groups, daytimes or evenings by arrangement, in exchange for a donation to SVTA funds. It is hoped that the project will be ready by September 2009.

Visit to Tameside of Sixth Form Students from Armentières

Sixth Form students from the Lycée Paul Hazard in Armentières spent the week 13th to 17th April 2009 in Tameside, staying at the Sea Cadets and visiting the region.

Request for a High School Link with Armentières (posted on 1.02.09)

Desrousseaux High School in Armentières is extremely keen to form a link with a High School in Tameside. A good number of the pupils at Desrousseaux visited St. Paul's C.of E. Primary School,Stalybridge, when they attended Léo Lagrange Primary School, and they have asked if they can continue to have a link with Stalybridge. Their teachers are very keen to exploit the pupils' enthusiasm.

Andrew Peet Memorial Competition

An amateur photographer from Armentières, Pierre Tourbier, won joint third prize in the Andrew Peet Memorial Competition, March 2009. He was presented with his £50 cash prize, certificate and shield at the new Library and Media Centre in Armentières on 22nd March, during a visit of a group from the Twinning Association.
 

Twinning Association Visit to Armentières (posted 0n 29.01.09)

A group from the Twinning Association will be visiting Armentières from 20th to 23rd March 2009. During the visit, we shall meet the organisers of the twinning on the French side, to plan our programme of exchanges for 2010. We shall be shown the latest developments in the town, and we shall visit the surrounding area with our counterparts. The travel to Armentières is at our own personal expense, as is travel for all groups that visit Armentières. 
 

Visit of St. Paul's C. of E. Primary School Pupils to Armentières (posted on 29.01.09)

In the last week of the school term before Easter, about 30 pupils from Year 6 of St. Paul's C. of E. Primary School, with their teachers, will make a working visit to Armentières. They will be staying in group accommodation in the town. During the visit, they will have working sessions in Léo Lagrange Primary School, along with French pupils of the same age; they will also visit the town and the surrounding area. The English and French pupils have already been corresponding with each other by email.
