In January 2009, amateur photographers from Armentières were invited by Stalybridge DIstrict Assembly to enter the Andrew Peet Memorial Photography Competition with photos of either Tameside or Armentières: places, buildings or people. We are pleased to announce that an amateur photographer from Armentières, Pierre Tourbier, won joint third prize in the competition.
Armentières also holds an annual amateur photographic competition, Photofolie, and amateur photographers from Tameside are invited to enter.
In 2006, Rob Wild of Stalybridge won first prize for one of his photos on the theme of Bodies in Motion. Here is Rob with his winning photograph in one hand and his prize in the other. In 2007, he was invited to Armentières for the opening weekend of Photofolie and asked to exhibit a selection of his own photos as a guest photographer. His exhibition was on the theme of Ordinary People.
Over the years when we have been taking part, the themes for Photofolie have included:
Why not think about entering 1, 2 or 3 photos in Photofolie 2009?
Through photos, we can exchange information about a large part of our culture, our way of life and our way of thinking, and it is a form of exchange that involves no travel costs - surely a good thing nowadays?
You would just need to send or deliver your entries to us, and we would forward them to Armentières by the closing date in September or October.

Watch this slide show of Rob's on the preparations for Photofolie 2007 in Armentières, when he was invited as a guest photographer. The theme was 2 (Deux - Two). If you look carefully, you can see how some of the photos fit the theme. Double left-click on a photo, then click on 'Slide Show' to see an enlarged version.
