- Remember to warm up well before more strenuous exercise and cool down before putting your horse away.
- Use a good farrier and ensure your horse’s feet are regularly trimmed and/or shod.
- Have your saddle checked at least once a year or every six months as your horse changes shape through getting fitter or fatter.
- Have his teeth checked at least once a year.
- Ensure a good, balanced diet and employ more natural feeding methods including feeding the horse from the ground (incl hay) to encourage neck and back stretch.
- Spend time getting to know your horse from the ground.Carry out regular, simple suppling exercises (carrot stretches, ‘cat’s paw’ to neck/shoulder blade junction, stroking along and across the back etc.)
