SCHOOL STREET SCHOOL LIBRARY October 2011
Our motto this year in the library is:
Reading is an Adventure!
Did you know that you can travel anywhere in a book? You can visit an island, a castle, a beach,
a haunted house, a jungle...the possibilites are endless!
In September kindergarten and first grade enjoyed dancing around to the story
Pick up a book and see where it takes you. "If your happy and you know it!" I have the jungle version... so the students roared like lions and jumped like frogs. My second, third, and fourth grade classes have been enjoying (I hope) the story, "Back-to-School Burglar" by Nancy Star. We will be finishing this story the first week of October. As a treat the students will play a carnival game called Lollipop Tree. They could receive a variety of prizes from bookmarks, pencils, snacks, toys, to having lunch with me and receiving a delicious home cooked dessert. To say the least the students are very excited about this. Here is a picture of Isabella and Sophia Olsen in front of the lollipop tree. :) This month is a busy one with kindergarten and first grade adding leaves to the lollipop tree and if their leaf has a number on the back they could win a bookmark or pencil.
They will hear a story about Christopher Columbus. Don't forget "No School" on October 10th we are celebrating Columbus Day. For a couple of weeks we will be finding out about apples, and their life cycle. Hopefully we will be able to do a couple of apple prints to decorate our library.
The last week in October we will not only hear a spoooky good story but will be in full swing of our
