A shed is typically a simple, single story structure in a back yard or similar area that is used for storage, hobby area, or even as a workshop or office. Sheds run in all shapes and sizes and in complexity of construction, from small open-sided tin-roofed structures to large wood-framed sheds with shingled roofs, windows, and even electrical outlets for power tools.

Metal sheds are usually made from thin sheet metal sheathing, or galvanized steel or aluminium, attached to the metal frame. Metal sheds are the best choice when long-term strength and resistance to rot, fire, and/or termites is desired, but they may rust over time, particularly if they are constructed from steel that is not galvanized.
Plastic shed kits are made of heavy molded plastics such as PVC and polyethylene are more expensive than sheet metal sheds.
