posted Apr 13, 2012 8:24 AM by Beth Vojtisek

Quote of the Week

If we put children in an environment where music surrounds them, it becomes a part of their being…not just for learning the materials, and the internalizing of the concept of tone,

but for what happens to them inside through the music.

Quote of the Week

Let your child repeatedly practice the pieces they can already play; emphasize the building of ability with familiar pieces. This fosters fine ability. There is no need to rush ahead. If a child practices the pieces he knows over and over again so as to play them better, ability grows, and remarkable progress is made. This is the Suzuki method.

Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.

Idea of the Week

The credit for this amazing idea goes to the Citron family and their nanny.

Practice for a treat!!!

Your child earns one ingredient of a recipe for every activity that they do in a practice session.

Then, after the practice session you bake the treat.

This can be done with your favorite cookie recipe etc.

Just make sure that the recipe doesn’t call for too many ingredients based on your child’s age.

Weekly Update January 27th

posted Feb 8, 2012 11:34 AM by Beth Vojtisek

Quote of the Week

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.
Nelson Mandela

Your gift of a well-rounded education will enable your child to change the world.

It sounds like a lofty goal but you are helping to make it attainable.

SRO Calendar and Events:

·     Monday, January 30th and Tuesday, January 31st – our group class theme will be SROlympics Day. You don’t want to miss out on one of the highlights of our year. Gold medals will be awarded to all students.

·      Parents as Partners Online Event – Deadline…today!!!

The Suzuki Association of the Americas, our supporting organization, has developed an invaluable program for Suzuki families, called Parents as Partners Online.  We have arranged to register the entire school so that the cost to you is only $8 per family.  We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity! The 2012 event begins Monday, January 30 and runs through the end of June. Reply to SRO (via email only – mmutter@suzukiroyaloak.org) by Friday, January 27 to make sure you don’t miss a minute! Please include your name and the email address you desire to use to receive content.  The $8 will be added to your SRO invoice. Once registered, you will receive a direct link to access all of the video content from the SAA.

·      Saturday, February 11th – Ferndale Suzuki Workshop – Deadline Today!!! I have attached the information regarding the Ferndale Suzuki Workshop taking place on Saturday February 11th. This is a great opportunity for all SRO students. One day workshops are very fun and a great motivator during the bleak days of winter.

·     Sunday February 12th 5:00 PM – SRO Faculty Recital

St. Paul Lutheran Church 202 E. Fifth St. Royal Oak

I have attached a flyer for you to send to family and friends.

This concert will be appropriate for all ages. It will last no more than one hour.

Donations will be collected at the end of the concert to send our Faculty to the National Suzuki Teachers Conference in May.

·     Mid-Winter Break 2012

This is a very confusing week, so I have given you the entire SRO schedule for that week. Teachers will only make up lessons if your school has a different vacation schedule and you have already planned a trip. Please talk to your teacher this week to reschedule that lesson if you are going to miss.
