All we can say is that for the intrepid diver with a stoic disposition, willing to rough it out Sri lanka offers some fascinating diving. The best part of all is that it is available right at your doorstep (unless of course your door step happens to be in the central hills - in which case you can take up bird watching or some other fascinating inland hobby or move to Colombo and join the club).
A fact most people are not aware of is that Sri Lanka is an island. That means you could dive anywhere not far from the beach (and not only in Hikkaduwa). However the more famous spots are Kalpitiya, Negombo, Colombo, Beruwala, Bentota, Hikkaduwa, Unawatuna, Tangalle in the West Coast and Trincomalee, Batticaloa in the East Coast. Last but not least, is one of the best spots for diving; the Great Basses ridge off Kirinda!
